The City of London Almshouses estate is a small development of one-bedroom, self-contained dwellings on the ground and first floor set within a conservation area. They offer homes for people aged 67 and over on a below average income or state benefits, who are in need of housing and require sheltered accommodation. Residents should have low support needs and they operate a no pets policy.
The City of London Almshouses Trust is a charity registered with the Charity Commission and a housing association registered with the Housing Corporation. The Trust is administered by a body of Trustees who give their services voluntarily. The Almshouses are managed on behalf of the Trustees by the City of London.
A communal meeting area is onsite for residents and estate meetings. Residents can enjoy the use of a large lawned area and landscaped gardens. There is one resident member of staff (Matron) who is on duty Monday to Friday. Outside their working hours, all properties on the estate are linked to a pull-cord alarm system which is monitored by Lambeth Careline 24 .
The Almshouses are situated in Ferndale Road, Brixton, and are conveniently close to a large shopping area, public transport and local amenities.
