Community Shop is a social enterprise that is empowering individuals and building stronger communities, by realising the social potential of surplus food.
Members of Community Shop can shop for good food at great prices – easing pressure on family budgets – but also gain access to professional, personal development programmes, to kick-start positive change in their own lives.
Community Shop are able to offer savings of up to 70% off normal retail prices by selling surplus products that the larger retailers and brands can't use.
Community Shop is available to those living in a particular catchment area and in receipt of certain types of income support. To be a member at Community Shop you need to be:
-Resident in a household where someone receives income support

How To Join:
If you think you do qualify, becoming a member of Community Shop is easy.
All you have to do is bring something to one of our membership days that:
-Tells us where you live (like a utility bill)
-Has your signature on (like a bank card)
-Proves you receive council tax benefits
A member of the Community Shop team will tell you all about how it works and help you complete the registration process. Membership will be offered for six months, and will be reviewed towards the end of this period.
Please note membership is only intended to last for 6 months.
We hold regular welcome and registration meetings in the shop so just pop along to find out why your Community Shop is ‘more than just food’.
When members join Community Shop, they are also enrolled at our Community Hub. Here we work closely with a range of local partners to provide a programme of free, professional support available in their community. We offer mentoring, budgeting and debt advice, employability training and cookery classes.
Each member agrees that they want to support each other in a Personal Development Programme. We call this programme The Success Plan, which helps people take a close look at the life they want to have and the person they want to be.
These services have been brought together to help our members, meaning people have access to another 200 hours of help, advice and training every week through Community Hub.
Please note the Community Hub programme listed above is aimed at people under retirement age. Community Hub offers specific support for those over retirement age. Support includes housing, debt and legal advice. This service is provided by a third party who specialise in these areas of support.
Please also note membership for the Community Hub is only intended to last for 6 months.
