Triratna is an international community of Buddhists providing a local space for people to meditate together and explore the teachings of Buddhism. Our classes have a friendly atmosphere, and offer a sense of shared community.
Brixton Triratna Buddhist Community was formerly known as the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order (FWBO).
Our aim is to provide a local situation in which people can meditate together and be supported in an exploration of Buddhism as a living spiritual tradition, with the possibility of developing and enjoying a sense of community.
You don't have to be a Buddhist to come to our classes. We welcome anyone who wants to come along to learn about Buddhism and participate.
All our teachers are ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order and have many years' experience of committed personal practice of meditation and Buddhism.
Classes are offered on a donation ("dana") basis. The recommended amount for people in employment is £6.00.
Monday Evening - 7.30pm to 9.30pm - Introduction to Buddhist Meditation
Monday evenings are devoted to teaching the practice of either the Mindfulness of Breathing or Mettha Bhavana ("loving-kindness") meditations for beginners and those new to meditation or Buddhism.
Wednesday Evening - 7.30pm to 9.30pm - Buddhism Class
Wednesday's class is open to all those who are able to meditate without guidance. Classes start with a 40 minute meditation session, followed by a tea break, after which will be an exploration of Buddhist themes. This will be in the form of a short talk, discussion and reflection. The class is a great way to meet and get to know like- minded people who will be able to support you in your practice.
Classes are held upstairs at Yoga Point in Herne Hill.
