We also support and encourage hostels and homelessness projects to accept homeless people with dogs.

Dogs Trust will also subsidise most additional treatments that the dogs may need.

The Hope Project Veterinary Scheme is open to any dog owner who is homeless or in temporary housing, for example:

- Rough sleeping
- Living in a hostel or night shelter
- Living in temporary accommodation
- Squatting
- Living on an unauthorised travellers site

How to Apply

Dog Owners:

You can apply to the Hope Project Veterinary Scheme through a participating homelessness organisation in any of our 105 scheme areas. Please ask your local homelessness organisation if they take part in our scheme.

If you are not in touch with any of the organisations who participate in our scheme, you can apply to us directly. You will need to provide us with proof from a recognised homelessness organisation or your local authority that you are homeless or in temporary housing. Please contact us for more information.

Homelessness Organisations:

If you are a homelessness organisation in one of the 105 areas where our scheme currently runs, you can make online applications for your clients and their dogs. To register your organisation on the project, please apply here.

If you are a homelessness organisation outside of our scheme areas, please contact us to discuss how Dogs Trust can help you.

Help with Finding Accommodation

Sadly most accommodation providers in the UK still operate a ‘no dogs’ policy meaning that homeless dogs owners are denied access to the shelter and support they so desperately need, simply because they have a dog.

The Hope Project works with hostels and housing providers to encourage them to accept clients with dogs.

We also provide a directory of dog-friendly hostels in partnership with Homeless UK.
