Action for Better Ageing

A new project which provides support and asks older people about the changes they want to see happen.

Based at Waterloo Action Centre, the two year project aims to unlock the ideas of older residents and find out what they need to live more independent, happier and healthier lives within the community.

Bisola has been appointed the community worker to kick-start this project which is initially focusing on the Wellington Mills and China Walk Estates.

Bisola aims to take the project forward by:

- Publicising what is already available locally and how people can get access

- Complementing activities of other local organisations

- Creating opportunities to gather new ideas from older residents

- Utilising the community's skills and expertise to make things happen

- Encouraging volunteers to come forward to kick-start and co-ordinate new initiatives

The project also aims to consolidate and help build up other projects in the community. To support this process, the project can:

- Facilitate discussions and help to plan a new project

- Provide ' seed corn' money to help get projects off the ground

- Offer local legal/ other advice sessions
