Age UK Lambeth’s mission is to support and work with older people to achieve a full and enjoyable quality of life.

Advice and Information Service

We provide a flagship Information and Advice Service for older people, carers and people with disabilities. We run five Information and Advice drop in surgeries across the borough of Lambeth. You can also call  020 7346 6800 to speak to one of our advisors Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm.

See our website for more information on dates and locations of drop-in sessions. Otherwise you will need an appointment to see an advisor face to face.

Befriending

Our Befriending Service is for older people who may feel socially isolated and lonely. Our main target client group are the 9,800 (40%) Lambeth residents aged over 55 who live alone. We match each individual applicant with a suitable volunteer who visits their home for at least one hour a week to keep them company and have a chat.

For more information or for a referral form call us on 020 7246 6800 or email info@ageuklambeth.org.uk

Handyperson Service

We can carry out minor repairs, improvements or adaptations to enable older people to maintain their independence and live in a warm, weather tight, safe and secure home.  It charges £40 per handyperson per hour, reduced to £5 if you receive means-tested benefits, plus the cost of parts used. "Lock it and stop it" services, light bulb changing, and smoke detectors are free. Click here or call us for further information

The Vida Walsh Activity Centre

The centre in Brixton is a place for those older people who want to get out and about to do things. There are lunches, art and crafts, exercise classes and more. Click here for more information and here to see their activity programme.

Events

Coach trips are arranged regularly to places like Hastings, and the Promenade Festival in Worthing. There is also an annual "Celebrating Age Festival" held in October, with a variety of film, music, dance and art events, tours, and other exciting things going on!

To find out about other local events for older people, take a look at our monthly calendar of events.

Volunteering
The range and quality of services we provide is only possible through the help of the volunteers who work with us.

We offer all our volunteers relevant training and support. We can also cover some expenses.

For some people later in their life the cells in the brain that are related to mental ability become damaged, causing a gradual decrease in the ability to think and remember. When this happens it is referred to as dementia. Dementia is a non-specific illness syndrome (set of signs and symptoms) in which affected areas of cognition may be memory, attention, language, and problem solving.
Advice for people with housing enquiries. For example,if they are moving property, are waiting to be allocated a local authority property or feel that they are living in sub-standard accomodation.
Volunteer for a community project. Help to improve your local area and the lives of local people by volunteering your time to work on community-based projects. Donating just a few hours each week can make a real difference within your local area.
